Female employees account for 57.35 per cent of total national cadres working in private sector: MOHRE

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) announced that Emirati women working in MOHRE-registered private sector establishments and companies account for 57.3 per cent of the total national cadres working in this sector.

Approximately 33 per cent of the total Emirati women working in the private sector are engaged in occupations of high skill levels, said Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Communication and International Relations at MOHRE.

Al Nuaimi pointed out that the majority of Emirati women working in private sector establishments are engaged in a variety of vital economic activities in the financial and banking sectors, tourism, retail, education, business services, health and other economic sectors, adding that this proves that they are capable of taking up these positions in which different skills and experiences are required.

The growing number of Emirati women participating in the national economic activity and taking up many different jobs proves that the policies and initiatives implemented by the UAE to empower Emirati women in workplaces were successful and helped achieve a gender balance in the labor market, he said.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, led a project to empower Emirati women, who achieved many accomplishments over the past years and became an active partner in the UAE sustainable development, he added.

"While the UAE is celebrating the Emirati Women's Day, we should all be proud of the outstanding accomplishments and gains that Emirati women made to be ahead of many women in the world by virtue of the national development project aimed at empowering women in all fields including the economic field and at all levels, enabling them to play their natural role as an effective partner in the society", he said.  

Al Nuaimi explained that the MOHRE, in co-operation with its strategic partners in the government and private sectors and relevant economic sectors, is working on empowering Emirati women by implementing several qualitative initiatives and programs aimed at bolstering their participation in the private sector labor market.

The MOHRE is implementing a package of qualitative initiatives to support Emirati women including the 'remote working initiative, which is aimed at creating more job opportunities for Emirati women through a new system that does not require them to move daily to the workplace, he said, adding that this would help Emirati women achieve a balance between both their work and family life and would motivate them to take up jobs offered in the private sector.

The remote working system is based on a partnership between the MOHRE and the private sector for concluding bilateral agreements, under which the MOHRE provides fully equipped remote workplaces and organizes open recruitment days for employing Emirati women as per the said system. The system enables Emirati women living in areas far from the cities to work in the afore-mentioned centers, thus sparing them the burden of going to and returning from the companies they work for, particularly major companies, which are usually based in cities.
