Tolerance, dialogue and respect for diversity are key pillars of UAE labor relations: Al Hameli Statement is part of Al Hameli’s speech to Arab Labor Conference in Cairo

“Tolerance, dialogue, acceptance of others with different opinions, respect for diversity, combating all forms of discrimination among labor force members and guaranteeing rights are among the key pillars, which the UAE’s labor relations are based on,” said HE Nasser Bin Thani Al Hameli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

“These values are also among the national constants that the UAE leadership is keen to promote continually, particularly after 2019 has been declared as the year of tolerance with the aim of disseminating the values of tolerance in establishments, thereby consolidating their diversity and bolstering their co-operation and acceptance of others with different opinions,” he added.

Al Hameli said so in a speech that he delivered today (Monday) during the plenary session of the 46^th edition of  Arab Labor Conference held in Cairo with the participation of government representatives, employers and workers in the Arab countries.

Al Hameli is leading the UAE delegation to the conference, which will discuss up to April 21^st a report by the Director General of Arab Labor Organization as well as a number of Arab labor issues. The report stresses the importance of labor relations for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which recognizes the shared responsibility of the countries of the world to achieve sustainable development for all peoples.

The UAE has adopted a package of policies aimed at developing the labor relations management in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development, Al Hameli said, adding that this is in line with the report of the Director General of the Arab Labor Organization, which suggests that good labor relations are a long-term investment in development and social prosperity.

In this context, Al Hameli referred to the national employment policy, which focuses on providing Emiratis with the best skills, bolstering their participation in the labor market, attracting and empowering qualifications and talents, making the labor market more flexible, extending legal protection to all categories of workers in the country and promoting gender balance in all walks of life including economic and political participation and labor.

Al Hameli underscored the need for those in charge of labor issues in the Arab world to co-operate and exert concerted efforts to create a new generation of talent and energy-based jobs with a view to dealing with the challenges related to the future of labor and the jobs of the future, particularly in light of the expected rise in automated jobs in the upcoming years.
