The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) organizes a series of activities and events on the occasion of the "World labour Day", which falls on the first of next May, from April 28 to May 3.

Maher Al-Obaid, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at MOHRE, chairman of the Higher Committee of celebrating the World labour Day at the Ministry, said "the celebration of the “World labour Day” this year would assume a special significance as it coincides with the Year of Tolerance. The ministry prepared an agenda for the celebrations that complies and corresponds to the principles and values of tolerance, acceptance of the other and openness to different cultures. The agenda targets, at the same time, promoting communication with labour and striving to make them happy in their international day."

He added "the state's annual celebration of World labour Day confirms that labour in the UAE, at different levels of skills, are considered a key party and a strategic partner in the sustainable development of the State, while ensuring guaranteeing the labour rights under the Law on Regulation of Labour Relations and its implementing decrees."

The MOHRE agenda on world Labour Day celebrations includes a major celebration to announce the results of the winners of the championship of "Happiness card" in the Cricket Sixes' tournament, which was launched on March 29 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, with the participation of about 10,000 workers from 30 labour villages across the state and with 50 teams, and in collaboration with the Ministry, the Emirates integrated telecommunications company "du" and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

It is planned to distribute 100,000 “Happiness cards” on workers, through “Tawjeeh” service centers. These "Happiness cards" are Sim cards that provide several benefits; including granting the worker free phone call minutes, unlimited internet and monthly draw on cash prizes for 21 Sim card users; where the first winner wins AED 10,000 and AED 1,000 per winner for the rest of the workers over the year, besides distributing AED 10,000 on World Labour Day for three workers, including the winners of the draw at three “Tawjeeh” service centers".

The ceremonial events also include the launch of the "Tharaa" program; a savings program for workers that targets promoting the principle of saving for a safe and happy future. This program is a part of the Labour Happiness program, as it contains several financial benefits and advantages.

The activities celebrating World Labour Day also include the distribution of gifts and awareness booklets to workers coming to the state, in addition to visits to the labour at their places of work and the distribution of gifts to them that include headgears "helmets", which are powered by solar energy.

The MOHRE’s Customer Happiness centers across the state are set to hold various competitions and activities, with the participation of customers, distribute awareness brochures and souvenirs, besides organizing workshops and cultural, sporting and recreational activities in the workers’ residential cities at the State-level.
