Private Sector Youth Council discusses attracting Emiratis to economic sectors

The Private Sector Youth Council (PSYC) has organized a youth session to discuss different ways to attract local talents to work in the various economic sectors and how to empower them to do their jobs.

The Private Sector Youth Council (PSYC) has organized a youth session to discuss different ways to attract local talents to work in the various economic sectors and how to empower them to do their jobs.

The session came as part of a series organized by the Council, which comprises 18 Emirati men and women in the private sector and semi-government entities. PSYC works under the umbrella of MoHRE.

Held on the helipad at Dubai Festival City, the session saw lively discussions between Council members, in presence of MoHRE representatives, namely Mona Waleed, acting Undersecretary of Emiratization Affairs, and Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Assistant Undersecretary of Communications and International Relations.

Waleed lauded the level of participation and the quality of suggestions made by the youth, who proposed meaningful mechanisms to encourage UAE citizens to work in the private sector, as it offers significant employment opportunities.

She added that the Ministry places a great emphasis on having active participation from Emirati youth in the private sector, by proposing new ideas and concepts that would enhance the levels of local human resources in the sector.

Dr. Al Nuaimi said: “The Ministry is keen on providing the Council with the necessary support, as it represents the Emirati youth in various economic sectors, as well as semi-government entities.”

He added that the Council offers valuable feedback on laws, regulations and policies that regulate the work environment in regards to Emiratization and human resource within the private sector. It also hosts sessions that provide insights on youth’s most pressing issues and the challenges they face working in the private sector, in addition to proposing solutions and programs to alleviate them.

The event examined a number of areas relating to Emiratis working in private institutions, including ministerial decree No. 212 of 2018, regarding regulating Emiratis’ work in the private sector, in terms of hiring procedures and ensuring commitment to Emiratization, as well as the steps necessary to end working relationships.

During the session, participating youth discussed various proposals to encourage young Emiratis to enlist in professional and vocational training programs, as well as enabling them to be a part of an active work environment that provides them with the professional experiences required to perform their jobs according to the highest standards.

Session participants also stressed the importance of changing UAE locals’ view on working in the private sector, by organizing awareness campaigns at schools and universities, in order to educate students about the importance of private sector jobs and the advantages they offer.

Event partakers also talked about their personal experiences working in the private sector, the challenges they faced at the beginning and how they were able to overcome them, in addition to measures taken to ensure their success.
