Geneva International Labour Conference: UAE Discusses Promotion of Bilateral Cooperation in Labor Issues with Bahrain, Egypt and Jordan

During the meeting, the deep ties between the two countries were highlighted, under the leadership of H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE, and his Majesty, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain. Both sides also emphasized the common desire to promote bilateral cooperation in the areas and issues of labour.

The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the initiatives and programs of the two countries in respect with training, employing and empowering the national human resources as well as promoting their participation in the labor market and leading its different economic sectors.

Both parties emphasized their keenness on exchanging expertise and experiences, which contributes to developing national policies aimed at promoting nationalization in the private sector in both countries.

The ILO agenda and the progress of its sub-committees were also reviewed during the meeting, with the emphasis laid on the necessity to coordinate the bilateral and Gulf positions on the issues and subjects addressed by the conference, which will continue until 21st of current June.

Al Hamli also met separately with the Chair of the participating delegation, Mohamed Safaan, Egyptian Minister of Manpower and Immigration, and Nedal Faisal Al Batayneh, Jordanian Labour Minister.

During the two meetings, bilateral cooperation in the areas of labor and manpower between UAE and each of the two countries, as well as the relevant experiences in managing labor markets in the three countries were discussed.

The two meetings witnessed a discussion of the stances of the three countries on the subjects tackled by the conference, with the emphasis placed on the necessity for joint Arab work in dealing with the international labour issues.

The three meetings were attended by Obaid Salem Al Zaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Saif Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for Human Resources Affairs; Maher Hamad Al-Obaid, Deputy Under-Secretary for Inspection Affairs; Dr. Omar Al Nuaimi, Assistant Under-Secretary for International Relations and Communication; and a number of officials from the three countries.
